Fremont City Ordinance

Justice and Advocacy Ministries was part of a coalition that recently advocated in opposition to a proposed ordinance under consideration by the city council of Fremont, Nebraska.  The ordinance would have made it a violation of the Fremont City code to harbor a person residing in the Fremont area illegally.  According to the ordinance, it would have made hiring a person or renting to a person without legal documentation illegal.

After approximately four hours of testimony on both sides of the issue, the City Council voted on the ordinance.  The vote was split 4-4.  The Mayor then casted the tie-breaking vote against the ordinance and it failed.
